A Better Mute Button
By August 2025 I'd been at AEG Presents for nearly two years, which meant nearly two years of Microsoft Teams meetings and a lot of "you're on mute." So I wrote urmuted. The app is called Mutation.
It's a global hotkey and a system tray icon, so you can mute, unmute and see your state without hunting for the window. Six days of work. It's an Nx monorepo with four packages: hotkey, systray, teams, and the app that ties them together. The first run pops a Teams authorization dialog you have to allow, and macOS needs accessibility permissions before a global hotkey works, which took an afternoon to sort out.
Teams has a local API for this, and the project is a thin wrapper around it. I built it because the mute thing bugged me several times a day.
