Rust Core, Swift Face
Once I had the measurements, I built what they pointed to. Rust holds the logic and state, UniFFI generates the bindings, and the interface is real SwiftUI: a sidebar and a content panel, the standard Mac app layout. June 2025.
UniFFI is Mozilla's tool for generating Swift, Kotlin and other bindings from a Rust crate, so you write the core once and each platform gets its own native UI. That flipped what I'd been doing all spring. In May I wanted TypeScript to drive a Rust window. In June I let the platform draw its own window and kept Rust behind it.
It's groundwork, a sidebar that proves the connection works. Kumato is named after the brown tomato, alongside Guava Script the month before and gazpacho the day before. June 2025 was a lot of small Rust experiments with grocery names, right as tumeric was picking up speed.
