Launch El Toro
The front page of el-toro.net was a black background with a logo in the middle. Click it and JavaScript opens a new window, exactly 700 by 450, and sets window.status to "Launch El Toro." The popup was a fixed size because the Flash inside was a fixed size.
Behind it, main.swf and media.swf talked to PHP through gateway.php and remoting.php. That's Flash Remoting, which AspenTreeMedia had handed me on my first day a couple of months earlier along with a ColdFusion backend to port to PHP. Here I was using it on my own server to feed an MP3 player from a folder of tracks. There was even a noscript fallback link to main.php.
