Canvas Games And Tiny Servers
In the summer of 2010 I wanted to see if the browser could be a game console. HTML5 canvas was new, lots of people were writing engines for it, and ImpactJS looked like the best one, so I started a project called impact.
It was an experiment, not a game. ImpactJS with Weltmeister, its level editor, so I could draw tile maps in a browser tab instead of editing JSON. Faye for messaging, so it could have more than one player. PHP behind it, plus a bundled run_web_server.exe and tiny.exe so the whole thing ran on Windows by double-clicking one file.
I never released anything from it. I last touched it in July 2012, after I'd left Luma and started Crunchbutton. Years later I built a Game Boy Advance engine, which is kind of the same idea.
