A Cache For WoW Stat
On June 27, 2016 I put up a small caching server for WoW Stat. It proxied Blizzard's Mashery endpoints and stored the responses in Elasticsearch, so my users' requests didn't all hit Blizzard directly. It didn't take long.
Realm status rarely changes but gets checked constantly, and people waiting for their server to come back only need to hear about it within a minute or two, so caching fit well.
wowstat.net had been around since 2007, and I hadn't played the game in years. I was rebuilding it because the old client had stopped working, and it was fun to work on something I understood completely with no deadline.
