Building My Own Desktop
In late April 2025 I forked the ublue-os image template under the knoeone name. Universal Blue takes Fedora's bootc atomic images, like Bluefin, Bazzite, Aurora and uCore, and lets you build your own on top.
You get a Containerfile that says what you're starting from and which RPMs and binaries to add, a Justfile for local commands, and a GitHub Actions workflow that builds the image, signs it, and pushes it to the GitHub Container Registry with the metadata to show up on artifacthub. There's even a workflow to build an ISO you can install from.
I'd wanted this for years. Every machine I set up slowly drifts and I can never reproduce it, and this makes my desktop something I can rebuild. It's not a distro, just my own machine set up the way I like and built by CI. Same month I was writing a Rust license scanner, and a month before tumeric.
