No Webpack, No Vite

Late June 2025, and I wrote a framework again. I've done this in every era: Gemini in the freelance years, Cana, the Crunchbutton backend, Tipsy. This one was called Simple Framework.

The idea was a universal runtime: the same full-stack app running on Node, Bun, Deno, edge runtimes and Cloudflare Workers, with everything past the core loaded as a plugin, so React, Vue or plain JSX were all options. For tooling I went with SWC, OXC and Rolldown, and no Webpack, Rollup, Vite or Babel. I wanted the build layer to be Rust all the way down without having to write it myself.

Two days in it was serving web pages, with phase 1.2 checked off, the plugin system hooked into the HTTP lifecycle, Bun working, and Node and Deno ready.

Then I stopped. What I took from it was that the JavaScript build stack was what was bugging me, and adding another layer on top wasn't the fix. Tumeric had started a month earlier, and the language was already on its way.
