Replacing Flash With QuickTime
In 2010 there were two ways to put video on a web page. You used Flash, or you used the QuickTime plugin, which had Apple's control bar and wouldn't let you change it. QuickControl was my attempt at a third option: the QuickTime plugin for playback, with controls I built myself.
It was built on MooTools, which I used for everything then: Class, Options and Events for the structure, and Slider for the scrubber. You handed it a movie URL and an options object with width, height, a container element, a style class name, and attributes passed through to the plugin like autoplay and enablejavascript. The example pointed at a District 9 trailer on Apple's movie server, 640 by 340.
HTML5 video showed up that same year and replaced both plugins within a couple of years.
