What Am I Standing In
Pokemon Go came out in July 2016 and for a few weeks everyone was walking around staring at their phones. I wanted to see how hard the backend would be. It wasn't.
Pokeloc was Node and Express with Mongoose on MongoDB. You stored named locations with geographic bounds, and a /nearby endpoint ran a geo-intersect query to tell you what you were standing in. There was Redis, a Twitter integration, and a Heroku Procfile, because I did plan to deploy it. It was going to live at pocaloc.co.
This was the first summer of Agency Enterprise, when the studio was four people in Venice and I spent nights on small builds. This one didn't go further. The craze faded, and the geo query worked fine.
