Blazingly Fast Guava Script
The whole pitch was four lines, with javascript crossed out and replaced by guavascript. "BFGs. A Blazingly fast guava script engine." Then: "Its like javascript. but not quite. because its blazingly fast."
Under the joke, I wanted to see what it was like to use a JavaScript runtime as a Rust crate. Boa is a JavaScript engine written in Rust, so I wrapped it: clap for the CLI and tokio underneath so promises had somewhere to resolve. One day in May 2025. It runs a file.
That week I'd been bolting TypeScript onto Rust GUIs three different ways, and I was starting to think I should write one language that was both. Tumeric, a JavaScript to Rust transpiler, started that same month and became the biggest thing I've written by myself. Guava Script was a day of playing with someone else's engine right before I started building my own.
