Just A Build Command
Heroku buildpacks were great until you wanted one small extra step at the end, and then you had to fork a whole buildpack for three lines. In May 2015 I wrote a buildpack that just runs your command.
My description of it was "just runs a simple build commnd when we are all done," typo included. You drop a file called .buildrun at the root of your project with a shell command in it, and it runs at the end of the build. The example I shipped writes the Heroku source version to a .gitversion file, re-exports it, then hands off to a build script in the project's cli directory. I wanted deployed apps to know which commit they were running, which helps a lot when debugging production.
It was a few shell scripts, done by August.
