The First Four Hours
The first few hours of a hackathon usually go to auth, a build pipeline, sessions and getting email to send, before you get to build anything.
Node had Hackathon Starter for this, and in December 2015 I built a PHP version. Mine was PHP plus AngularJS, on Tipsy and tipsy-mvc, with OAuth wired in, SCSS compiling, Redis for sessions and caching, and Mailgun ready to send. It had a deploy to Heroku button, which I put on everything back then, and a note that it was still a work in progress. I never took that note down.
It was the last thing in a busy week: the dependency auto updater on December 8, the YAML config plugin on December 9, and this on December 10. That same year I'd also shipped a driver app, a payment plugin, a tip jar and a documentary site.
