A Library For Google Checkout
Google Checkout launched in the summer of 2006, and on July 5th I registered gcheckout on SourceForge: a GPL library of PHP4 and PHP5 scripts to talk to it, with the docs on a wiki. Free and open, for anyone who wanted to take payments through it without reading the spec themselves.
I'd been doing payment integration for years by then, through PayPal and Authorize.net for agency clients and then for my own products. The bot business sold software to thousands of people, and I didn't want to depend on one processor. That same year I was building LitePay, my own payment platform, for the same reason. A new checkout option from Google was worth a weekend.
It's the same thing I did with the file manager and the gallery: solve the integration for myself, wrap it up, and put it on SourceForge.
