Counting What I Had Written
In February 2004 I wrote a program to count how much code I'd written. PHP Line Counter walked a directory tree and totaled the lines. It went v1.0, v2.0, v3.0, the last in December 2004, and each major version was me redoing how it worked.
It was part of a two-week burst of small server-side utilities that winter: a directory browser, a source viewer, a line counter, an encrypter, a file searcher. Each one was a single script that did one thing to a folder on a web server, which was handy when all you had was FTP and a browser.
I was in Utah then, writing ActionScript during the day. This is what I did at night.
