The Store And The Licensing
The store came after the desktop app. myspacefriendbot.com went up in October 2005 and ran until 2012.
There was the site people saw. There was licensing: the app phoned home and the server checked whether the key was valid. And there was a Perl mailer for the sales emails, because Perl was what I used when it was a cron job instead of a page.
