IRC In A Java Applet
Around Christmas 2002 I decided chat should happen in the browser. Nobody asked for it, it just seemed like something you should be able to do from a web page, so I built it on arzynik.biz.
The core was PJIRC, a Java applet that spoke IRC, wrapped in my own language files and pages. There was a noob.php landing page for people who wanted to be in the channel without downloading mIRC and figuring out server lists. I kept working on it through 2003 and into 2004.
The applet did the IRC part. I did the packaging, the translation strings, the front page and the hosting, so a normal person could just use it.
