Scoring Gear In PHP
The tool opened with a wall of numbers. Unholy: strength 2.4847, hit 2.4748, armor penetration 0.5447, expertise 1.3914, crit 1.1240, haste 0.6214, weapon damage 7.5670. Then the same table for blood, then frost. Attack power is one, and everything else is weighted against it.
Those are Death Knight stat weights from December 2008, one month after Wrath of the Lich King launched with a brand new class nobody had figured out yet. The rest was short: a cURL class, an Armory class, and a call to read a character by realm and name. Tichondrius, Jaguarlove. I scraped Blizzard's Armory, pulled the gear off a character, multiplied every stat by its weight, and got a number.
It never became the site at dpsspot.com. I mostly built it to figure out my own gear.
