Crux In Nine Days
In nine days at the end of January 2004 I wrote an image gallery and put out 1.30 on the 28th, 1.31 on the 29th, 1.32 on February 3rd, each with hand-written release notes. The 1.30 notes list a clean function, a display bug on Original, a side directory bug, a side link bug, and a default directory bug involving two dots and a slash. That was a long week.
Crux read directories straight off the server and generated thumbnails and other sizes on the fly, so it never stored a second copy of anything and never sent a full image just to show a small one. You uploaded by FTP or SSH into whatever folder you pointed it at, and the gallery figured out the rest. PHP and MySQL, an admin panel, and a default login of admin with no password, with step six of the install telling you to change it.
I gave it a license with four clauses: don't misrepresent the origin, mark altered versions, don't remove the notice, and don't sell it in source form, though selling a service built on it was fine. It was free, distributed as a zip, with php@arzynik.com as the contact.
