The Solution Named Myspacebot
The Visual Studio 2005 solution was called myspacebot, not FriendBot. The company and the product had their names, but the project I opened every morning still had the name I gave it before any of that.
The C# client grew out of a script I'd started in AutoIt. It had an embedded browser to drive MySpace, a friend extractor, an accepter for incoming friend requests, and then the business modules: ads, licensing and auto-update. Licensing mattered most. A remote licensing system let record labels buy per artist account, which turned it into a B2B product. Auto-update let me fix things the morning after MySpace changed a page. There was a bot CMS on the server side too.
