FriendBot, In VB6
vbbot, October 11 and 12, 2005. Visual Basic 6, a form, a module, and two days.
This was a prototype of the MySpace friend bot. FriendBot ran from 2005 to 2009 and was the first thing I built that made money while I slept. It ended up in .NET, but it started here, in VB6, because that put a window on screen faster than anything else I knew.
MySpace in October 2005 was the biggest place on the internet. Bands needed friends, and the way you got friends was clicking add thousands of times by hand.
I was still in Utah then. I spent two evenings on this and it ended up outlasting every job I had that decade.
