Paging Everyone At Once
ICQ had a feature where you could send someone a page, a short message that showed up whether or not they were properly online. That was fine for one person and a pain for a list of people, and in 2002 my friends were a list of nine-digit numbers.
So I wrote a Windows utility that did the loop for me and shipped it as two zips, ICQ_multi-pager-v1.zip and ICQ_multi-pager-src-v1.zip. I was already in the habit of shipping the source next to the binary.
I wrote it in July 2002 and was still touching it in April 2004. This was the year before I started charging anyone for anything, when the day job was the datacenter grave shift and the programming happened at home, mostly small utilities for problems I had myself.
