One Codebase, Three Places
This was an experiment in building one codebase for everything: Expo and Next.js together, so an iOS app, an Android app and a website all come out of the same components.
In 2020 that was possible but a bit rough. Most of the time went into the seams: which navigation works in both, what to do with components that assume a DOM, how to build one bundle without breaking the other. Later I wrapped it with Capacitor too, to get a native shell that behaved. I also set up a second expo-next scaffold next to it, because the plan was to reuse the pattern beyond this one app.
Weather was just a simple subject to test it on. The data is free and the screens are simple. I started it March 21, 2020 at the studio, right when every client suddenly wanted an app on every platform.
