Asking How Everyone Is
We did this hackathon in November 2021, when the studio was fully distributed. When everyone's in a room you can tell how the team is doing. When everyone's a square on a video call, it's a lot harder.
So we built a Slack bot that asks. Bolt for the Slack side, Express around it, MongoDB for storage, and a cron worker so the asking happens on a schedule. It ran on Heroku. Most of the thought went into the design: how often to ask, and making sure people trusted that the answers were anonymous.
We called it Tacoboutbot.
