Shirts, Rendered
January 22nd, 2018 was the start of the biggest client build of my studio years. Shirt App was a custom t-shirt maker, and we were rebuilding it end to end. The mobile app started that day and the web side the next.
The mobile side was a cross-platform Ionic app with fastlane and CircleCI doing the builds. The web side had an Angular CLI admin and a Node API on Postgres and Redis, integrated with Shopify for the commerce and feeding a set of render workers. Rendering was the fun problem: someone designs a shirt on their phone, and we have to produce a print-ready file and a preview that looks like the shirt they'll actually get, as fast as orders come in.
It ran about ten months and wrapped in November 2018. It was the biggest thing I worked on in that stretch by far: a team, a deadline, an app store, a payment integration and a render farm, all at once.
