Saying Thanks, At Scale
It was called Agencyudos first, then Gratz. Organizations invite their members, members send each other thanks, and everyone can see the thanks.
The stack was a little unusual for me: Nullstack with MongoDB, S3 for files, Mailgun for email, Slack so the app could reach people where they already were, and Printful so a thank you could turn into an actual thing in the mail.
I led it, and the part I'm proudest of isn't code. We designed and dropped eight new rewards every month from launch, and it held over 85% monthly employee engagement.
The Name Came Back
Two days at the start of February 2023 on gratz-next. Next.js 13 with the app router, which was new enough that trying it out was part of the point. Google OAuth through Passport for login. Tailwind and Sass together: utility classes for layout and stylesheets for the rest. An admin section, and a separate landing page about advertising.
Gratz was already a name I had. GetGratz was our internal peer to peer rewards platform at the studio, started in July 2021, which I led, with a Slack reminder bot and a visualization layer. gratz-next was a fresh start under the same name, with an advertising angle.
It got two days before the week got busy.
