Faxes For Bitcoin
BitFax let you send a fax and pay for it in Bitcoin. You uploaded a document, we rendered it, Twilio's fax API sent it, and you paid through Stripe and block_io.
The stack was a React frontend, a Node and Express API with a separate worker, MongoDB, and PDF rendering with PhantomJS and ImageMagick, all on Heroku. Rendering was the tricky part, since a fax is a bitmap at a specific resolution, so whatever you upload has to become a page image a fax machine can print.
It started October 19th, 2017 and stopped on November 14th. That fall I was getting into crypto at the studio: Coscrape was a month old, Woodpecker had shipped the day before, and the apibtc npm client was two weeks out. Two years later we were doing serious Go work on Lotus, the Filecoin node, for Protocol Labs. BitFax was the fun way I learned a crypto payment stack.
