A Directory With Aliases
A chamber of commerce came to me directly, which was rare. They needed a member directory that stayed current without someone editing HTML every time a business joined.
They wanted categories and subcategories, and then category aliases, so a florist could also show up as a gift shop and an auto body shop could show up under both auto and repair. So the schema let one member live in several places at once and let the chamber add new names for existing categories without duplicating anything.
Most of the work in 2005 was designing a small database around how the chamber was actually organized.
